The Compass Carpet Bag is a doctor-style bag that has a zipper at the top and opens wide thanks to a metal frame. It’s a great size for a handbag, and would also be great as a project bag (for knitting, crochet, etc.)!

Finished Size: 12” long x 7-1/2” tall x 6” deep (30cm x 19cm x 15cm)
Supplies Needed to Make This Bag:
- 1 yard/metre of Exterior Fabric
- 1 yard/metre of Lining Fabric
- 2/3 yard/metre of Solid-colored Fabric for Accent and Handles
- 1/2 yard/metre of foam interfacing (By Annie’s Soft and Stable, Pellon Flex Foam, Bosal In-R-Form, or automotive headliner; if using Flex Foam, it is only 20” wide so please purchase 1 yard)
- 2-1/2 yard/metre of 20” wide Pellon SF-101 Shape Flex fusible woven interfacing (or medium-weight fusible interfacing)
- 1/4 yard/metre of fusible fleece
- 12-1/2” x 6-1/2” (32cm x 17cm) piece of Pellon Peltex #71 ultra-firm interfacing OR Decovil Heavy
- 24” single-pull handbag zipper (#4.5 or #5 zipper) *will be trimmed to 22” in Step #24
- 8” zipper (can be either #3, #4.5, or #5 zipper))
- Four 1” metal rectangles
- 1 pair of 10-1/4” x 2-3/4” metal frames
The pdf pattern includes 12 pages of sewing instructions, complete with 34 step-by-step photos.
Also included in the PDF pattern are printable pattern pieces for your home printer. The following files will all be included with your PDF pattern purchase:
- SVG Files (for electric cutting machines, such as the Brother Scan N Cut and the Cricut Maker)
- Projector Files (for use with home projectors for cutting out fabric; please see the group Projectors for Sewing for more information)
- A0 Files (large-format 33″ x 46″ pattern page for printing at your local copy shop, in case you would rather not tape together the pattern pages that are included in the PDF pattern)
