This backpack comes in 2 different sizes and features front and optional side pockets, plus plenty of storage space in the main compartment. Size small is a great size for a purse or small backpack, and size large will fit a standard-sized notebook.

The pdf pattern includes 14 pages of sewing instructions, complete with 41 step-by-step color photos.

Also included in the PDF pattern are printable pattern pieces for your home printer. The following files will all be included with your PDF pattern purchase:

  • SVG Files (for electric cutting machines, such as the Brother Scan N Cut and the Cricut Maker)
  • Projector Files (for use with home projectors for cutting out fabric; please see the group Projectors for Sewing for more information)
  • A0 Files (large-format 33″ x 46″ pattern page for printing at your local copy shop, in case you would rather not tape together the pattern pages that are included in the PDF pattern)

Supplies Needed to Make This Bag

  • 1 yard/metre of exterior fabric for size small OR 1-1/4 yard/metre of exterior fabric for size large
  • 1 yard/metre of lining fabric for size small OR 1-1/4 yard/metre of exterior fabric for size large
  • 3/4 yard/metre of foam interfacing (By Annie’s Soft and Stable, Pellon Flex Foam, Bosal In-R-Form, or automotive headliner; if using Flex Foam, it is only 20” wide so please purchase 2 yards)
  • 4 yard/metre 20” wide Pellon SF-101 Shape Flex fusible woven interfacing (or med-weight fusible interfacing)
  • Optional: 1/2 yard/metre of Pellon Peltex #71 or Decovil Heavy (for a firm Front Pocket and Bottom; possible for either size small or large, but may be appreciated for size large; also to stabilize the Strap Overlay on back of bag)
  • Two handbag zippers: 24” for size small OR 30” for size large
    (either single-pull or double-pull zippers will work; I used double-pull zippers)
  • 12” zipper
  • Two 1” metal rectangles
  • Two 1” metal sliders
  • If you would like to use webbing instead of fabric for your straps, you will need 2-1/2 yards of 1” wide webbing
